Peterborough City Council and Hawksworth Securities PLC entered an agreement on
21 September 2020 to begin acquiring land at North Westgate, bringing momentum to this £150 million regeneration project which will deliver a new urban quarter for Peterborough.
The scheme will provide new homes, office premises, a hotel, and supporting retail, restaurant, café and leisure uses, set within extensive new public spaces and landscaping.

The North Westgate development extends from Bourges Boulevard across to Lincoln Road, and from Bright Street on the north side to Westgate at the south.
The location lies between Peterborough’s mainline rail station (200 metres) and the city centre. The central bus station is just 50 metres away. The scheme faces the Queensgate retail shopping centre and the John Lewis store on Westgate; the new Waitrose store faces the North Westgate site across Bourges Boulevard.
The North Westgate scheme meets local plan requirements, is designated as a priority for re-generation and lies within the ‘core city centre’.
A hybrid Outline Planning Application was submitted on 30th July 2018 and consent was granted at the Planning Committee Meeting on 27th November 2018.
The consent permits considerable flexibility between uses.
A majority of the development site is already under ownership. Delivery of the scheme is expected in 2020/21.
